News from Mrs. Fowler


Dear Trinity parents,

With all the confusion about the Stalin book, I wanted to notify you all about the next history read.
The first week in December, your 7th/8th grader should have the book
Carry a Big Stick: The Uncommon Heroism of Theodore Roosevelt
by George Grant.

It should cost around 11.00 and has 224 pages.
Thank you for your attention to this.

7th/8th History: Read pages 146-175 in Stalin.
Your map quiz of Western Europe will be on Dec. 4.
Literature: Your original poem is due on Tuesday, December 1.
Please remember to have 14 lines or 3 stanzas if a ballad.
Your term quiz will not be until Friday, December 4.
5th/6th History: Read Chapter 11 of SOW. Begin thinking about a research project topic.
Your topic should be a person, country, or event between 1850 and today.

5th/6th History: Please make sure you are familiar with Chapter 10 of SOW for discussion.
We will be adding more maps to our notebooks.

7th/8th History: Great discussion in class. Thank you for being prepared.
Please keep your outlines in your notebooks.
Read Pages 116-147 in Stalin.


7th/8th Literature: Please read the following poems and hand copy them. Write 2-3 sentences for a response to each poem.
Reminder: You are to create you own poem due the Tuesday after the break.

Mrs. Fowler's assignments

Reminder: There is formally no school on Friday.
There will be, however, a history study session on Friday at 10 am.( Beaufort County
Library) We will meet for about an hour and a half. This is optional. You do not
have to attend. I will be going through the Stalin outline.


Literature: Complete your final draft of your story.
Bring 9 poems to class. 3 written by Emily Dickinson, 3 by Robert Frost,
and 3 by the poet of your choice.

History: Map quiz on Tuesday.
Finish Stalin Outline.
Read pages 75-116 in Stalin.

5th/6th History: Read Chapter 10 of SOW.
We made a traditional craft of Bulgaria today in class. Please ask your son or daughter about them.
If you are still working on your report, here are some questions to consider:
1. What did the people do for a living?
2. What religion did they practice?
3. What kinds of holidays are common to just this country?
4. What kinds of goods are produced here?
5. Who was an influential person form this country?

Literature: Complete the rough draft of your short story.
It should be based on one of the Harris Burdick pictures.
If you need to look at your picture, you can find them on line.
Your story should be less than 5,000 words and/or at least 2 pages in length.
You must include the 5 elements of a short story.

History: Use the link and do some review of your European map.
Read pages 42-74 in Stalin.

5th/6th History: Complete your research assignments.
Each student should do research and write at least on page on the way of life for the people including customs, vocations and holidays.
The country assignments are as follows:
Noah: Russia
Luke Bulgaria
Spencer: Dutch East Indies
Kate: Ottoman Empire
The years covered should be between 1870-1900.

Literature: Read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"
Begin thinking about your short story topic.

7th/8th History: If you do not have the book, please keep trying.
If you have NOT read pages 1-41 please do some research about Joseph Stalin and his life as a young man growing up in Georgia.

5th/6th History: Read the first section of Chapter 9.
